One-of-a-Kind Stoneware Bowl – Iron Oxide Wash, 400 ml

A one-of-a-kind stoneware bowl with a surface that holds the story of its making. An iron oxide wash brings depth to a gently irregular, tactile form. This is a unique piece, made through the same process as LELEK's larger 700 ml bowl, in a smaller 400 ml size.

Clay, texture and fire

After trimming, I applied an iron oxide wash. The oxide settled into the tiny recesses left by the grog in the clay, creating an unrepeatable pattern that became fixed during firing at 1240°C. Rather than covering the texture, the wash brings it into focus.

The bowl retains a subtly uneven feel in the hand. A carefully applied transparent glaze covers the interior and exterior, protecting the surface while keeping the clay and oxide pattern visible and making the vessel easier to clean. Only the contact ring on the foot remains unglazed, as required for the final firing.
